How to solve the 46 error code on Brother printers

Someday, you will turn your brother printer on and see the 46 error message appear on screen. This specific error can be a bit more costly than the others if you choose to contact brother’s tech support team, especially since this error tends to show up after we’ve surpassed our pre-established printing sum and voided our warranties.

The printer should be a bit old now, so you won’t be able to get any free repairs on it since it’s already been used for as long as the factory made it to last.

What causes the 46 error message on brother printers:

This particular error code shows up on brother printers whenever the waste ink absorber pad has filled up with ink.

Your brother printer’s support system will tell you to replace it and contact one of the members of this team to do it. For us Latin Americans, this can be very hard to find, and the cost in dollars will surely exceed the one in our local currency.

Therefore, we have to learn how to solve this problem on our own. This is why we’ve created this particular blog post and published it.

Due to the presence and absence of certain buttons on several brother printer models, this tutorial will only work on the following printers:
DCP-130C, DCP-135C, DCP-150C, DCP-330C, DCP-350C, DCP-540CN, DCP-560CN, DCP-750CW, DCP-770CW, MFC-235C, MFC-240C, MFC-260C, MFC-440CN, MFC-465CN, MFC-5460CN, MFC-5860CN, MFC-660CN, MFC-680CN, MFC-845CW and MFC-885CW.

We may know of another solution for this problem. If you need it or want more information regarding this subject, please post a comment in the section below this post and we will answer your every question.

Procedure for eradicating the 46 error message on brother printers:

This tutorial will teach you how to restore the counter installed in your brother printer, which can mess the configuration up a bit. Also, this printer and its drivers could appear to be connected to another USB port.

Your printer’s name could change on the control panel, and the “copy 1”  message could appear after the old name after this has been done. This, however, is the same printer you were working with before.

Step #1:
First of all, make sure your printer is on and connected to your computer at all times during this procedure. The computer must also be on and fully functional at this point.

Step #2:
Now, press the menu/set, mono/star and menu/set buttons in this particular order. After this has been done, please wait for about five (5) seconds.

Step #3:
The MAINTENANCE 10 option will appear on your screen, and the FAX and COPY buttons will be turn green.

Step #4:
Press the navigation keys upwards and select the MAINTENACE 80 option on the menu. Then, press the mono/star button again, and then hit the menu/set one.

Step #5:
Browse until you’ve reached the purge option. This one will have a number on it, but don’t pay any attention to it.

Step #6:
Once the purge is going on, type in the code 2783. You will hear a short beeping sound and the counter will be set back to zero (0).

Step #7:
Press the stop/exit button to confirm this.

Step #8:
Finally, disconnect the printer’s power cable and leave it like this for five (5) seconds.

If this problem persists, please post a comment in the section below this post and we will gladly help you out.
