How to fix the 5 E5 error message in canon pixma mp140 printers

In most cases, this error will show up when your canon printer stops recognizing the ink cartridges installed in it. This can mean the ink cartridges are not properly attached to the printer’s contacts, or that all the contacts on the printer and cartridge have become dirty.

If this is your case, please visit the following post and clean the cartridges and/or contacts as instructed in it. However, cleaning these parts may or may not solve your problem.

Now, if this procedure doesn’t anything, please proceed to restore your printer to eradicate the E5 error from your printer. We will show you several different ways of doing this, just in case one of them doesn’t work out for you.
If you still can’t reach a solution, or these procedures don’t work on your printer, please contact us by leaving a comment in the section below this post. We will be happy to help you out.

The first possible solution for this problem is restoring your canon printer. Please stick to the following steps for this procedure.

Step #1:
First, disconnect the printer’s power cord. You can detach it both from the power outlet it’s attached to, or directly from the printer. Be very careful and avoid all direct contact with electricity.

Step #2:
Then press the stop/reset button on the printer’s main panel, and reconnect the printer’s power cable while pressing it down. The next image will show you how the stop/reset button looks.

This key can usually be found on the right side of the printer’s panel, and is the second button from the right.

Step #3:
While pressing the stop/reset button, hit the on/off button once. Please do nt let go of the stop/reset button until you’ve pressed the on/off one.

Step #4:
Let go of the stop/reset button and press it two times in a row.

Step #5:
The printer should now rest for 30 to 40 seconds. Please let it rest and don’t do anything to it during this short period of time.

Step #6:
Now, press the stop/reset buttons four (4) consecutive times. You must push the button slowly but firmly each time to achieve your goal of restoring the printer.

Step #7:
Finally, press the on/off button on your printer twice; the error message should have disappeared by now. If it doesn’t, please read the next possible solution.

This alternative solution has also fixed the E5 error in canon pixma mp140 printers. Even when it looks very similar to the last one, it has some different steps and procedure to it and it will set the printer’s counters back to zero (0). Fortunately, many error messages on your printer can be used by following this same tutorial.

Please keep in mind that you will need to install this printer as the default one on your computer again. Your pc will think it’s a different printer and will give it a different name, keeping the original one but adding the wrods “copy 1” at the very end.

Step #1:
First, connect your printer’s power cable to iy.

Step #2:
Then, press the stop/reset button. This is the same button we mentioned in the first solution, so it looks exactly the same as the one we showed you.

Step #3:
While keeping the stop/reset button pressed, touch the on/off key.

Step #4:
Now let go of the stop/reset button and hold the on/off key. Make sure the printer’s LED is blinking before pressing the stop/reset button twice.

Step #5:
Release all buttons.

Step #6:
Wait for the LED to go completely green. Once it’s happened, press the stop/reset button four (4) more times. This should set the counters back to zero (0).

Step #7:
You should now disconnect the printer’s power cable. You can detach it both from the power outlet or from the printer itself.

Step #8:
Finally, connect the power cable back to the printer and turn it on.

Everything should be working well by now. If it isn’t, please contact us by leaving a comment in the section below this post. You may also be interested in the canon pixma mp140 printer manual. Click here to download the Spanish version.
