How to refill the HP 60 black ink cartridge

The HP 60 black cartridge works with pigmented inks, which is why it yields up to 220 pages with laser printing quality. Even after refilling it, this cartridge will still print up to 150 pages, but only if you use pigmented ink when doing it. To learn more about this type of ink, please visit the following post.

We could even state that a new generation of HP cartridges began after this one came out, since the new ones print fewer pages than the older HP cartridge models.

This is why we shouldn’t be surprised by the fact that our ink cartridges print fewer pages than the traditional ones, the HP 60 black cartridge is compatible with the following printer models:

HP deskjet D1660, D2530, D2545, D2560, D2660, D2680, D5545 and D5560. when refilling this cartridge, we recommend you only inject 5ml of ink into it. This amount surpases the original factory amount, but it won’t cause any problems.

Instructions for refilling the HP 60 black ink cartridge:

Before we start, we recommend you clean the contacts on this cartridge. While this is necessary, it’s not really mandatory since these cartridges have very high performance as it is.

However, if you haven’t used them, in a long time, there may be some dried ink on the print heads, and that’s never good. Please read the following post to learn how to clean the print heads on your ink cartridges.

After you’ve done the cleaning process which, again, is not mandatory and you can choose to avoid it completely, you can continue with the refilling procedure.

Step #1:
First, put the cartridge on top of any material that can take an ink spill or two. We don’t recommend you use any white fabric since you won’t be able to remove the ink from it, but you could use any black material, even a flat surface that you can clean ink from.

Step #2:
The, remove the label that carries the cartridge number, located at the very top of it. We recommend you always remove this label before refilling the cartridge.

This label is responsible for letting the necessary amount of air into the cartridge that will help it reach the highest performance and printing quality. Take this label off very slowly to avoid harming it.

Step #3:
Now inject the 5ml of ink as slowly as possible. We need you to add the ink very slowly to help spread the ink inside the cartridge, so it soaks the sponge that’s in it. Please take a look at the following image, and remember to take all the air out from the syringe.

Step #4:
Now that you’ve refilled the ink cartridge, all you need to do now is print a test sheet with it. We recommend you leave the cartridge inside the printer from now on.

Unfortunately, something could still go wrong with this procedure even if you’ve followed it strictly. If this is your case, please contact us by posting a comment in the section below this post.

We always recommend you print a test sheet after refilling the cartridge, so please visit the following post if you wish to learn how to do it.

If your ink cartridge starts blinking when you install it back in the printer, we recommend you read the following post to learn how to restore them. This same post will work on this cartridge and many others.

If your ink cartridge continues to have problems or blinking after it’s been refilled, please execute the following steps:

1. Take the ink cartridge out of the printer and clean the contacts on it with a wet napkin.
2. Clean the contacts on the printer as well.
3. If you still haven’t solved the problem, then turn your printer off for 10 minutes and disconnect the power cable. Wait until the 10 minutes have passed and then plug the cable back in the printer before installing the cartridge back in the printer.
4. If this doesn’t help, please contact us.

How to refill the HP 54 black ink cartridge

The HP 54 black cartridge is known for its high page yield: you can print up to 600 pages with it, and up to 400 after it’s been refilled. Even when this cartridge wasn’t installed on many HP printers, the ones that do have it are some of the best out there.

This ink cartridge can print laser-quality pages because of the ink they work with. These cartridge are filled with pigmented ink, which lasts longer, dries faster and has a better glow to it. You could also refill this cartridge with dyed ink you could find at any printer store. Dyed inks are used to refill canon, lexmark and HP cartridges.

The HP 54 black cartridge can be refilled with 8ml of ink, which you can learn how to apply by reading the following procedure.

We recommend you refill this ink cartridge as soon as it runs out, or else it could stop working at all and we wouldn’t be able to refill it anymore.

Additionally, we also recommend you know the exact amount of ink you need to inject into a cartridge. Regardless of the type or cartridge, they all have an ink limit and you shouldn’t surpass it.

We suggest you read the following post to learn how much ink to add to your cartridge. This will keep you from making mistakes and damaging your cartridges.

Instructions for refilling the HP 54 black ink cartridge:

Before we start, we recommend you have the printer clean the print heads on this ink cartridge. Doing this is necessary, but not mandatory, since these cartridges have very high performance, but we recommend you do it if you haven’t used them in a while. There could be some dry ink on the print heads, which isn’t good at all. In this case, we suggest you read the following post.

After doing the cleaning procedure which, again, is not mandatory, you can start with the refill procedure. Still, we recommend you have the print heads cleaned after every three (3) refills.

Step #1:
First, place the ink cartridge on a surface that you can spill some in ok. We don’t recommend put it on any white material, since you won’t be able to remove any ink that may fall on it. On the contraty, we suggest you use black materials and a flat surface you can remove ink easliy from.

Step #2:
Then, remove the label on top of the ink cartridge that carries its number. We recommend you remove this label before refilling your cartridge. This label allows the necessary amount of ink to enter the cartridge and contribute to its printing quality and performance.

Step #3:
Now add the 8ml of ink to the cartridge as slowly as possible. We need you to do this calmly to help the ink spread throughout the entire cartridge and soak up the sponge inside it.

Step #4:
Now that you’ve refilled the ink cartridge, you only need to print a test sheet with it. We recommend you leave the cartridge inside the printer from now on.
Something could still go wrong with this procedure even if you’ve followed all the steps in it. If this is your case, please contact us by leaving a comment in the section below this post, and we will help you out immediately.
We always recommend you print a test sheet after refilling an ink cartridge. If you wish to learn how to do this, please visit the following post.

How to refill the refill the HP 40 black ink cartridge

The HP 40 black ink cartridge was made during the HP golden ages: it has very high printing quality and usually doesn’t cause any trouble for long periods of time. It also yields approximately 400 pages, but you can get almost the same amount of pages from it after it’s been refilled.

This cartridge works with pigmented ink, but you could also use dyed inks in it. However, the pigmented ink will guarantee the best print quality and durability, as also happens with laserjet printers. Please click here to learn the differences between dyed and pigmented inks.

These ink cartridges are refilled using the same procedure that’s applied on HP 15, 40, 45 and 50 ink cartridges. The HP 40 black ink cartridge is compatible with the following printer models: HP deskjet 1200; HP designjet 230, 250, 330, 350, 430, 450, 455, 488 and 650; and HP Copyjet and Copyjet M. Refilling these ink cartridges is very simple, but you must be very careful and try to keep the syringe straight at all times to avoid piercing the bag inside the cartridge.

The interior of this ink cartridge is usually well kept, since they have paper sacks inside it that act as ink container. They don’t have any sponges inside them, so there’s no chance of damaging them. However, if you leave the ink cartridge empty for a long time, you may harm it and shorten its worklife. If you’ve already done this, please read the following post to learn how to clean your ink cartridges and how to unclog them at home.

You will only need a few tools to refill this cartridge, which are: a syringe, ink, a piece of black cloth and a flat surface you can clean easily.

Refill procedure for the HP 40 black ink cartridges:

First of all, place the ink cartridge facing upwards on the piece of cloth we mentioned before, and over the flat, cleanable surface. This can help you avoid causing a mess.

Step #1:
Place the HP 40 black ink cartridge with the print head facing upwards, just as depicted in the following picture. If you wish to learn more about ink cartridges and print head, please visit the following post.

If you look at the bottom of the cartridge, you will be able to see a black piece of plastic, which seals it and keeps you from seeing the small iron ball located inside the cartridge. This is the exact place where we’ll refill the ink cartridge. Please take a look at the next picture.
place where the ink is placed hp 40 cartridge
place where the ink is placed hp 40 cartridge
We always recommend you remove this lid very carefully to avoid pushing the iron ball to the back of the cartridge. Things could get very difficult for you if you don’t have other plugs to replace this one.

Step #2:
Please pay attention to this particular step. There are two different ways of making way for the ink injection in our HP 40 black cartridges.

One is pushing the iron ball inside the cartridge, and the other is injecting the ink right next to it. If you choose to use the first method, you will need to buy the exact same plug at a printer store to replace the one you just pushed.

If, on the other hand, you do the second one, you will need to be very delicate and use very little strength when injecting the ink; this will keep the iron ball and the silicone around it from harm. Out of these two, we recommend you use the second method, since these plugs are very hard to find.
piece that will then remove the plastic
piece that will then remove the plastic
Step #3:
Depending on the technique you selected in step #2, you will need to inject the ink as slowly and delicately as possible to avoid damaging the cartridge. Please remember to inject only 10ml of ink; do not apply more or less ink. You should only introduce the very tip of the needle inside the ink cartridge to avoid piercing it all the way through.

Step #4:
After you’ve injected the 10ml of ink to your cartridge, please remove the syringe entirely. You must now add another 10ml of air using the same syringe, only this time it’s completely empty.

Introduce the needle once more and add all the air to the cartridge. Once you’ve done this, extract another 10ml of air from the ink cartridge, just to replace all the extra room we created in the cartridge with the original 10ml of ink we injected into it.

Step #5:
If you chose to push the iron ball back inside the cartridge, you must find a way of sealing the ink cartridge. We recommend you use a screw or a plug, specifically the plug we mentioned earlier.

If, on the contrary, you went with the second up, then just make sure there isn’t any ink leaking from the cartridge. Put it upside down, print head facing downwards,  for about two hours to check for ink spills. If the print head is releasing a lot of ink, we recommend you take some more air out of the cartridge. If it’s not releasing as much as it should, add some more air. This information will help you fix any of these cases.

Some other suggestions:
We always recommend you print several test sheets after finishing this procedure just to make sure everything’s working properly. Please click here to learn how to print a test sheet from windows. You may also be interested in learning how to print a test sheet in grayscale.

How to remove printer cartridge ink from your hands

It’s a bit cruel having to leave the office with both hands covered in ink. If we try to say hello to a friend, he’ll mock us and ask “Are you a mechanic?”. As usual, we’re honored to share our secrets for removing these stains, which can stay on our hands for up to three days.

Our first recommendation is that you buy latex gloves for the next occasion, and avoid having to remove these difficult stains in the first place. Here’s a picture of latex gloves.
gloves to protect your hands in ink
gloves to protect your hands in ink
These gloves will keep your hands ink free in the future. We imagine you’re reading this post because your hands are already covered in ink, so here are some other solutions you can make using ingredients from your own home.

Note:
Usually, printer cartridge ink is about 80% water, the same kind we used for refilling the cartridges. The other 20% is divided in 17% of a quick dry agent, and 3% of another component that keeps the ink from drying up completely; the amounts are all estimates.

This, of course, is a huge advantage for us, since we only need to wash our hands immediately to get them clean.

We don’t recommend you use towels or napkins for this because it will only make the cleaning process more difficult. The more water you use on your hands, the higher the chance of removing the drying agents we mentioned, which act up as soon as they come in contact with air.

If the ink dried up completely in your hands, you will need to use a tuba bit of bleach on your hands to remove it. We’d prefer it if you used pool bleach, but you can also use bleach for water.

Please be very careful when using this product. If some of it touches your yes, your sight may be compromised, so wash your hands thoroughly as soon as you’re done with the bleach to remove it from your hands completely. Also, bleach has a very potent smell, and our skin could soak it up and be irritated by it.

Warning!
Do not take this recommendation lightly. You must have soap and water close to you at all times, and avoid adding more than 5% of bleach to the water. If you choose to use add more, you may damage your clothes. Do not mix bleach and lye together, since it can cause toxic fumes that are very dangerous for the human body.

Another chemical agent that usually works well for this, and is even used for removing stains on clothes, is bleach, which is chemically called sodium hypochlorite. However, it’s very toxic even when used in detergents, and we don’t recommend you use this as your first option. It’s also called “lye” in Latin America and Spain.

Please keep in mind all our recommendations are based on personal experiences. If possible, we suggest you contact your physician before trying to remove printer cartridge ink from your hands, since these products can cause several secondary effects.

How to refill HP 932 K-BK and HP 933 M-C-Y ink cartridges

First of all, you should know both the HP officejet 6100 and the HP officejet 6600 models are compatible with the following cartridges: HP 932 black CN057AN one (regular size); the HP HP 932 black CN053AN one (extra-large version); the HP 933 magenta/cyan/yellow  CN058AN, CN059AN and CN060AN models (regular size); and the HP 933 magenta/cyan/yellow CN054AN, CN055AN and CN056AN ones (extra-large version), respectively.

These modern printers are one of the last HP models that cover all sorts of business and office printing needs. Their ink cartridges yield a bit more pages than previous models, which were create for home use and worked with cheap, money-saving ink cartridges.

However, each cartridges shape and system is different, and they now work with a single ink color. They also lack inner sponges and have an integrated print head.

Refill procedure for these HP ink cartridges:

Since these particular ones are different than the previous models, we needed to create a new way of refilling them.

In order to refill the properly, you will need the following tools:
1. A small syringe.
2. A funnel or cone that fits the ink injection site.

We recommend you use a new glue dispenser, the small tip that can be found on regular liquid glue containers. Always use a new one to avoid clogging your ink cartridge with dry glue residues that may be inside it.

This is the small funnel you should use for this process, but you can replace it with any other tool or utensil that fulfills the same task of keeping the needle from piercing the ink pockets inside the cartridges.
You could still refill your ink cartridges without using any protection gear or tools, but you’d have to extremely careful.

Now, you can fill the syringe with 10mls of dyed or water-based ink. If you need more information about pigmented and dyed inks, please click here to be redirected to the post we’ve created on the subject. This amount of ink, however, is only our personal recommendation, and it will depend on whether you’re using a regular or extra-large ink cartidge.

Then, introduce the needle once more into the cartridge, reaching only half of the plastic funnel, and press on it a bit to loosen the spring located inside the cartridge. Please do this as slowly as possible to avoid damaging it, and suck all the air inside it until you’re able to see some ink coming out.

The adequate ink quantity for regular sized ink cartridges is 10ml, while for extra-large versions you will need 15ml of ink. If you’re refilling a black extra-large cartridge, please add up to 20ml of ink.

Finally, you must know the original ink cartridges that come with your printer cannot be refilled. If you, however, choose to do this, your printer will permanently say the ink levels are low, and it will not allow you to print normally.

On the other hand, refilling another ink cartridge you’ve purchased somewhere else shouldn’t cause you this particular problem, and your printer will be able to measure the actual amount of ink inside it.

How to refill the HP 27 black ink cartridge

The HP 27 black ink cartridge is one of the best of the smaller models: its printing quality is closer to laser printing that regular one, and a single ink cartridge can yield up to 280 pages. Of course, refilling them will lower this amount, but only a little.

In all honesty, this is the only small ink cartridge that can hold as much ink as 15ml. Also , the HP 27 ink cartridge works with pigmented inks. If you wish to learn the basic differences between dyed and pigmented inks, please read this post.

As all other ink cartridges, the HP 27 black ink one needs to be refilled as slowly and as delicately as possible. This will help the cartridge’s inner sponge absorbs all the ink it needs and be filled up completely by it.

Refilling procedure for HP 27 black ink cartridges:

As usual when refilling an ink cartridge, we recommend you place it on a piece of black cloth that you can get dirty with ink, and then on a flat surface that you can get cleaned easily.

Step #1:
First, remove the plastic ribbon that carries your ink cartridge’s number and color. Some people choose to leave them on the cartridges during the refilling process, but we recommend you remove it entirely since it can activate certain components in the ink itself and make it dry out much faster than usual. This is why we suggest you remove it entirely for this process, and put it back in the cartridge after it’s done.

Step #2:
Now, inject all the ink in the cartridge. This particular one uses about 15ml of ink, which you must apply very slowly and gently in order to scatter it all over the cartridge.

Keep in mind this ink cartridge has more than one injection orifice, so you must use them all and inject ink in each one in order to spread the ink as thoroughly as possible.

Step #3:
Now, please put the label back on the ink cartridge, just as it was in the beginning. You will need all the small holes and the canals to stay uncovered, so the air can flow inside the cartridge and assure good printing quality. Do not leave the ink cartridge without it.

Step #4:
Place the ink cartridge back in the printer and let it rest for a few minutes before having it print any document. We recommend you print several test sheets before you get anything else done. If you don’t know how to get this done, please read the following post: . If you need more help than this, please let us know.

If your ink cartridges print blurry or not at all, we recommend you clean them entirely, which you can learn how to do by reading this posts: how uncovering the cartridge at home.

How to refill HP 12 ink cartridges

HP 12 ink cartridges have been created for the HP business series. These products use dyed inks, yield up to 2,000 pages and are available in cyan, magenta and yellow colors.

These ink cartridges can be refilled easily, as all HP ink tank, removable print head ink cartridges are. Please stick to the procedure described in this post to avoid damaging your ink cartridges and future printing jobs.

We also recommend you read this information attentively and that you use dyed inks to refill your HP 10 ink cartridges. If you don’t know the difference between dyed and pigmented inks, please read our post “The differences between dyed and pigmented inks.”

You will need the following ingredients to get these ink cartridges refilled:
1. A different syringe for each ink color we’re using.
2. A piece of cloth, preferably black, and a flat, easy-to-clean surface you can put your ink cartridges on to avoid ink spills.

3. Identifying each cartridge’s color correctly. If you get this wrong, you’ll damage your ink cartridge and end its working life. Keep in mind these injuries are very hard to fix.

Steps to refill an HP 12 ink cartridges:

Step #1:
Place the ink cartridge on the black piece of cloth and over the flat surface before starting the refill process.

Step #2:
This and every other ink tank ink cartridge are refilled by removing the entire bottom section from the cartridge, exposing the ink injector, the pump and the proper refill site. Take a look at the following picture to learn how to remove the bottom of this product.
how refill the hp 12 cartridege
how refill the cartridge hp 12
Please cut the label right where the red line indicates. You must cut exactly where the red line indicated, managing to cut the ink cartridge in two and exposing all the lower elements inside it.

Step #3:
Once you’ve removed the label, your ink cartridge will look something like this; you’ll be able to see all the parts we mentioned in step #1. Please do this with an empty syringe. Using the same tool, try to remove a small, black rubber ball from the bottom of the printer. This rubber ball has been marked with #1 in the following picture.
refill the cartridge 12 hp
refill the cartridge hp 12
Please do this slowly and carefully, and avoid the little rubber ball from receding to the back of the ink cartridge.

Step #4:
You can now fill each syringe up with the appropriate amount of ink. If you’re using normal sizes ink cartridges, add 30ml of ink to each syringe. If, on the contrary, you’re using extra-large ones, add 50ml of ink to each syringe.

Please do not use piercing syringes for this procedure, since they could puncture the metal sheet inside the ink cartridges and cause a permanent ink spill. Only use the very tip of the needle when refilling this ink cartridge.

Step #5:
After all this has been done, put the small rubber ball back in the printer, it will act as a plug for your ink cartridge that will keep all the ink inside it. Do not push it inside the ink cartridge or lose it, since it will be very hard to replace and you probably won’t be able to take it out of the cartridge without damaging it.

Once you’ve put the rubber ball back, put the cartridge on the piece of cloth covering the flat surface, just to check there isn’t any ink coming out of ink. Keep an eye for the injection hole and the place you just sealed with the rubber ball.

Step #6:
But the lower lid back on the ink cartridge, and leave it exactly as indicated in step #5. Your ink cartridge should now print perfectly if you’ve followed these steps strictly.

If this procedure hasn’t worked out for you, remember we’re here to help. Just post a comment in the section below this post and we will gladly get back to you.

How to refill HP 10 ink cartridges

HP 10 ink cartridges are known for their high page yield on integrated print heads printers. Please keep in mind this kind of printer will tend to use pigmented inks instead of dyed ones. If you don0t know the differences between dyed and pigmented inks, please read our post The differences between dyed and pigmented inks.

Most of the time, these HP 10 ink cartridges are used on HP Designjet printers, and come in two different presentations: normal size, and extra-large size. We’ve worked very hard on these refill instructions and steps, so please pay attention to them and help yourself throughout this entire process by sticking to them.

Ingredients you’ll need to refill HP 10 ink cartridges:

1. First of all, grab a different syringe for every color.
2. A black piece of cloth and a flat surface to avoid ink spills.

3. Identifying each cartridge’s color properly. Failing to do this will damage the ink cartridge and render useless. These injuries are very hard to fix, so please avoid them at all costs.

Step #1:
Place the ink cartridge on a flat surface and a piece of dark or black cloth before starting the refill process.

Step #2:
You will need to refill this ink cartridge by removing the bottom from it, exposing the ink injector, the pump and the proper refill site. Please take a good look at the following picture to know where to remove the bottom of the ink cartridge.

Please cut the label off exactly where indicated in the previous picture. The red line marks the spot, so please cut over that line to divide the ink cartridge in two. This will expose the bottom of the ink cartridge.

Step #3:
After removing the label, the ink cartridge will look like this. You will need to make this cut using an empty syringe, and you must try to make a small, black rubber ball come out of the ink cartridge with it. The picture marks it with #1.
refill the ink cartridge 10
refill the cartrige hp 10
Take the black rubber ball out of the ink cartridge very carefully and slowly, and keep it from receding to the back of the ink cartridge. Be very aware of the ball not going inside the cartridge.

Step #4:
Fill the syringes with the appropriate amounts of ink. If you’re using a normal sized ink cartridge, add 30ml to each syringe. If, on the other hand, you’re using an extra-large one, please add 50ml of ink.

We do not recommend refilling these particular ink cartridges with piercing syringes, since they could puncture the metal sheet inside the ink cartridges and cause ink spills. Insert the needle only a little bit in the ink cartridge to avoid piercing this metal sheet; use but the tip of the needle.

Step #5:
Put the black rubber ball back in the ink cartridge; ti will act as a cap and keep the ink from leaving the cartridge. Remember to do this softly to avoid pushing it into the ink cartridge, since they’re very hard to replace and it could damage the ink cartridge as a whole.

Let the cartridge rest with this rubber ball facing downwards, just to check everything’s worked out fine and there isn’t any  ink coming out of the injection hole or the place we just closed.

Step #6:
Place the bottom lid back on the ink cartridge, and leave it, lid facing down, on the piece of cloth just to check for any problems or ink spills. Your ink cartridge should print perfectly if you’ve followed this steps to the letter.

However, if things don’t go according to plan, we’re here to help. Please post a comment in the section below this post and we will gladly help you out.

How to refill HP 02 ink cartridges

Fortunately for us, HP 02 ink cartridges are very easy to refill in all their individual presentations: cyan, magenta, yellow and black. In order to do this, please follow the steps described ahead strictly and carefully, and keep your ink cartridges from all harm.

Even when these ink cartridges are easy to refill, we will take the same precautions we always take just to take care of our printer.

You will need the following ingredients to refill your HP 02 ink cartridges:

1. A syringe for every color.
2. Dyed or pigmented ink for the refill. For this particular cartridge, we recommend you buy dyed ink. If you don’t know what the differences between them are, please read our post The differences between dyed and pigmented inks.
3. A cloth to put the ink cartridge on. Please use a black cloth and place it on a flat, easy-to-clean surface to avoid ink spills.

How to refill HP 02 ink cartridges:

Step #1:
Place the ink cartridge over the flat surface and the piece of cloth we asked in the former list. This will make the refill process much easier and avoid ink spills from happening.

Step #2:
Locate the small orifice you’ll use to add the ink to the ink cartridge. Remember to do this as slowly and carefully as possible.

Step #3:
Please drill this hole in the ink cartridge exactly where indicated in step #2. Please pierce the ink cartridge with the syringe’s needle to avoid making too big a hole. You could tilt the syringe a bit to the side when applying the ink.

Step #4:
Fill the cartridge up completely and apply as much ink as you need to get this done. You must fill the ink cartridge is full by now. This is only a suggestion, not a norm, so you could fill it up as much as you want to.

Step #5:
Remove the syringe from the ink cartridge and seal it immediately. Use good quality glue that you can easily take off in future refills.

Step #6:

Put the ink cartridge on the piece of cloth just in case there are any ink spills. Leave this ink cartridge to rest for a long while; the longer, the better. Please remember to fill your ink cartridge up before it runs out, keeping the print heads from filling up with ink and causing printing problems.

How to change ink cartridges in Epson printers

Changing an ink cartridge is a very normal thing to do, and is a basic maintenance procedure we should all know how to do on our printer.

However, removing and replacing the ink cartridges from an Epson printer can be a little tricky, so we’ve decided to write a post showing you how to do it. All the informaiton in this entry is important, so don’t leave anything out when performing this particular task.

For this, we will only need our printer, the ink cartridges that need to be replaced, and the ones we’re replacing them with.

How to replace the ink cartridges in your Epson printer:

Step #1:
Unless your prints are very blurry or poorly done, you must wait for your Epson ink cartridges to be completely out of ink. Please clean your ink cartridges and print heads to confirm you need to replace the cartridges.
If you already cleaned both accessories and the printing problem persists, you will need to replace the ink cartridges completely. If you’ve only ran out of ink, them you can change them without spending or damaging any paper sheets.

Step #2:
You can now remove the empty ink cartridge(s) from your printer by opening the cartridge gate on your printer. Sometimes, you can’t do this straight away just by opening the printer, and you could need to press a particular button to make the printer understand you want to take the cartridges out.

You can find this key on your printer’s control panel, located in the printers and faxes category in your computer’s control panel. Right-click on the printers and faxes logo and select printer properties. Then, click on Ink cartridge replacement.

Step #3:
Press the Ink Cartridge replacement button or click on the Printer control panel option we described in the last step. This will make the ink cartridges easy to remove and get them in their proper changing position.

Step #4:
You can now replace the ink cartridges, or refill the one that has been used up. You can either give them to someone who does this for a living, or do it yourself by searching our blog for an ink cartridge refill procedure compatible with your ink cartridge. You could also buy a new ink cartridge and install it in the printer, the decision is entirely up to you.

If you choose to refill your ink cartridges but don’t know how to do it, please contact us by leaving a comment in the section below this post and we will find the proper procedure for you.

Step #5:
After you’ve refilled or replaced the ink cartridge entirely, set it back in the printer. You will only need to put it back exactly as it was before you removed it from the printing device, which can be very easy if you have the printer’s user manual with you. Remember not all ink cartridges are installed in the same way or position.

Step #6:
Press the Ink Cartridge Replacement button or click on the option once more to make the printer understand this has been done, and close the ink cartridge gate.

Notes:
  1. If the ink cartridge you buy is wrapped in a yellow ribbon, please remove it completely so the ink cartridge can have the get the amount air it needs for printing.
  2. If an error message appears on your computer after installing a refilled ink cartridge in it, it could have been refilled incorrectly or you could need to replace the chip on your cartridge. In all honesty, most Epson chips need to be replaced after this is done.
  3. If you have any questions related to this post, please leave a comment in the section below and we will get back to you.

How to print using a single ink cartridge

We all know our ink cartridges can become damaged or depleted at certain moments. However, modern printer models have some configurations installed on them by the manufacturers or sellers that only benefit them, leaving us, the users and consumers, in an even more vulnerable position.

We’re being forced to buy new ink cartridges and disposes of the one we have, or having to refill them and having them restored so they can run on our printers. Please keep in mind these tutorial will only work con certain printers, preferable on the older models.

Some other modern printers have these same capabilities, of course, but we’re focusing on former printer models for this post.

We’ll now try to nullify an unnecessary ink cartridge, which has become useless for us since it’s now empty or its print heads are damaged. If the contacts on your ink cartridge are messed up, we regret to inform you there’s nothing that can be done with it.

For example, if we’re printing a document and the printer sends out an error message, saying the tricolor ink cartridge is empty and that we need to replace it with a new one, the printer becomes blocked and we will need to print using only our black ink cartridge. A small solution can help us set this up in our own printers.

How to print using a single ink cartridge in our printer:

Step #1:
Please keep your computer and printer turned on, as you normally would. In this case, we’re working with windows OS. Go to the start menu on your computer, and click on printers and faxes or printing devices.

Step #2:
Locate the printer that’s working with a single cartridge and right-click on the its icon. Then, click on printing preferences, and see a new window unfold.
properties of printing devices
properties of printing devices
Step #3:
Please select the Color Printing Preference option; both ink cartridges should now appear on screen. Now, select the ink cartridge you want to use to print, and tell your printer to use only the one you chose.

If you want to print using only the black ink cartridge, click on print only in black ink or grayscale. Sometimes, the “colored or compound printing” option appears, which means all ink colors are blended together to create the black one.

Step #4:
If you’ve ran out of black ink or this ink cartridge is damaged, we recommend you switch over to Color printing mode to help your printer. It will produce a dark color, very close to black, and this process will be good for read. You can slo change the font on your documents do the print don’t look as deprived of black ink.

*Please the ink cartridges inside the printer at all times, even if they’re empty. If you remove them from the printer and try to set them back inside, your printer won’t recognize them and you won’t be able to print.

*This tutorial doesn’t work on some printer models.

How to check the ink levels in your printer

This tool has become extremely important in current times, since we can know when our ink cartridges are about to run out. Keep in mind this only works on original ink cartridges, so only those who buy new cartridges directly from the printer’s brand company will be able to tell when this time is coming close.

How do ink level monitors work?

Ink level monitors are a small program that’s installed with your printer drivers. They’re not attached to the ink cartridges themselves, which are entirely replaceable, but come with the drivers.

This system keeps track of the exact amount og pages that have been printed with a particular ink cartridge. For example, an ink cartridge could have been manufactured to print 200 pages, so it will only be allowed to print this amount.

If you install another ink cartridge on your printer and it happens to have a different page yield than the one that came before, your printer will recognize it and start a new page counting cycle.

Procedure for reviewing the ink levels in a printer:

Step #1:
First and foremost, install the proper set of drivers for  your printer. If you’ve used the driver installation CD that came along with your printer, you may have installed the complete set of drivers instead of the basic package.

This is something the program will ask you to decide when installing the drivers on your computer, you can choose between the basic or full set of drivers.
Here’s a picture of how the driver files should look like in the original brand’s website.
know how much ink the printer has
know how much ink the printer has
As you can see, the first set of drivers is the basic one, and the second one is the full version that includes advanced functions and many different add-ons. If you’re using original, brand new ink cartridges, we recommend you instal the second set of drivers.

Step #2:
Once you have the full set of printer drivers at hand, whether from the original CD or the brand’s website, go to the start menu on your computer and then click on control panel or configurations.
see print devices
see print devices
Step #3:
You must know locate the printer whose ink levels you want to check at the moment. Once you’ve found it, right-click on it and select the printing preferences option on the menu.
go to printer properties
go to printer properties
Step #4:
next, select the services widget on the upper side of the displayed window, and then click on the system review option in the top of the new window.

Step #5:
Look for an option that will let you see the current ink levels in your cartridges. You will now see a graph representing your cartridges’ ink levels. This estimate isn’t entirely accurate, but it can certainly be of help.

If you happen to refill your ink cartridges, you will not be able to obtain this estimate. In this case, we recommend you download and install a page counter program we will now show you.

These tools will help you find out when your ink cartridges are running low in ink. If you need any additional help with this post, don’t hesitate in leaving a comment in the section below. We will gladly take care for you and give you another possible solution to your problem.

How to clean ink cartridges

Being shocked by how much ink cartridges cost every time we need to buy a new one for our printer is a very common scenario, and one of the main reasons that have led us to refilling them.

In all honesty, I can’t begin to understand why they cost so much when the raw materials are so cheap. Unfortunately, things are how they are, we we need to learn how to get all the juice out of an ink cartridge. This includes knowing many things, such as how to refill them and how to treat them like the fragile children they are.

In order to guarantee our ink cartridge’s durability, it must be in top shape. This is something we and only we can provide for them by cleaning them, knowing when to refill them, and by adding the exact amount of ink to each cartridge.

In this post, we’ll show you a more effective way of cleaning your ink cartridges in a step-by-step tutorial. Hopefully, this will elongate your ink cartridges’ durability and working lifespan, and help you save a bit of money on something as important as printer accessories.

For starters, here are some ingredients you will need in order to clean the ink cartridges, which you can find in your own home. This post will not teach you how to unclog them, but only how to clean them.

Please repeat this tutorial on your own printer after you’ve refilled your ink cartridges, since they can spill some ink on the printer; if the printer blinks, you will also need to clean the contacts on it. You may also need to clean it when your prints are coming out blurry, or once in a while for maintenance purposes.

You will need the following materials:
  1. A bit of hot water.
  2. A soft cloth or napkin,
  3. A few cotton balls (not mandatory).

Instructions to clean ink cartridges manually:

Step #1:
First of all, identify which kind of ink cartridges are installed on your printer: they could have the print heads installed on them or set separately in the printer. If you have the latter, clean the print head individually.

If you’re not sure of which type of cartridge you’re using, check the printer’s user manual or the brand’s Help website to know which parts to clean during this procedure.

Remember you can count on us to answer any question that may arise. You only need to post a comment in the section below this post, and we will be happy to get back to you with a step-by-step solution.

Step #2:
Please execute the default cleaning process installed on your printer before starting this manual procedure. You can find it on the user’s manual or browsing your printer’s menu, located on the front side of the device.

If the print quality obtained still doesn’t satisfy you and you want to continue cleaning the ink cartridges by hand. please turn the printer off, open the gate leading to the ink cartridges and wait for them to reach their changing position. You can now remove them from the printer, and clean the contacts on your printer if you want to.
cartridge connectors
cartridge connectors
Step #3:
Now you must out your ink cartridges in a bain-marie, a cooking technique where the water isn’t hot enough for melting the plastic but can still warm things up. In case the ink cartridges do have the print heads installed on them. submerge the print head using the same technique.

We use hot water because this has been proven to be the best way of removing dried ink from printers and ink cartridges. Do not overheat the water.

Step #4:
Take the ink cartridges out of the water and clean them a bit using the soft cloth, especially around the print head area if this is the kind of cartridge you’re using.

You could also use napkins, which are also very soft and you can just throw them away when you’re done. If the ink cartridge has even a bit of ink inside it, it can damage any material we’re cleaning it with.

Clean the cartridges and print heads very carefully, and invest all the time you need to make sure this works out well. Remember to clean the contacts on your ink cartridge and printer if they’re dirty.

If the print heads are inside the printer, you can take them out to clean them. Please keep in mind these print heads have contacts of their own, and that you must also clean them if you notice they’re covered in ink. Do not rub them with your fingers, since this can set some of the remaining ink on the contact and keep it from working in the future.

Step #5:
You must now check the ink cartridges have been cleaned properly, which you can do by printing several test sheets. This can be done directly from the printer’s lateral panel, or the computer in case your printer model doesn’t have one of these.

If you can’t clean your ink cartridges with this procedure, please leave a comment in the section below this post describing what happened, and we will help you out.

How to restore HP 60 ink cartridges by using duct tape

With time, we’ve come to find many solutions for a variety of issues that have shown up in our own  printer workshop. This is why we‘ve chosen to create this post with a relatively vague solution, but one we can assure works 100% of the time: restoring your HP ink cartridges with duct tape.

This particular solution can isolate some of the contacts on your printer and get it confused about the type of ink cartridge we’re installing on it, and for how long it has been used. As you already know, printers have page counting programs that keep track of every page printed with each ink cartridge that has been installed in it.

The printer will know an ink cartridge has reached its maximum printing potential and send out error messages if we have them refilled and reinstalled in it. This is how Canon guarantees its earnings.

However, we can keep this from happening if we choose to install the basic set of drivers instead of the full package, as is indicated in the following post: I’ve refilled my ink cartridges but my printer says they’re empty.

Now that we know what the problem is, we need to find a solution for it. In our case, we’ll explain the one we’ve already used: restoring the HP 60 ink cartridges.

These are the materials we will need: You will need duct tape, preferably  thick, to keep the electricity from going back and forth. The printer and ink cartridge contacts will try to reach each other, so we must get in the middle of this in order to restore them.

Step #1:
Locate the contacts on your ink cartridges: they can be found on the front side. Please avoid touching them since they’re very sensitive to touch and could easily lose this trait.
hp cartridge connectors 60 for restoring

Step #2:
Cover two (2) of these contacts on your HP 60 ink cartridge, specifically the #3 and #4 ones. Do this before you place the ink cartridge back in the printer, and remember to use resistant duct tape in order to blow the electricity from passing from one contact to the other and isolate the ink cartridge completely.
You can see this in the next picture.
covering ribbon connectors hp 60 cartridge

Step #3:
You must cover these same contacts on the Colored ink cartridge as well before putting them back in the printer, just to make sure this process works. If this procedure doesn’t work out for you, remember we’re here to help, and you must only leave your question in a comment in the section below this post so we can get back to you.
tri-color ink cartridge covering three connectors
tri-color ink cartridge covering three connectors
Step #4:
Once both sets of contacts are covered in the Colored and Black ink cartridges, we recommend you set them back in the printer at the same time. Do not install one after the other, but do it simultaneously, and certainly do not close the printer’s lid in the process. You can close it after they’ve both been installed in the printer.

Step #5:
Now that you’ve put the cartridges back and closed the printer’s lid, wait a few moments. The printer will send out an error message saying both ink cartridges are faulty, Don’t worry, this is perfectly normal and expected. It actually means the restoring process is working, so just continue with step #6.

Step #6:
Turn your HP printer off.

Step #7:
Move the ink cartridge carriage until the very center of the printer. Remember you must do this while the printer is on, and do not turn it on until this tutorial tells you to. You can now remove the ink cartridges from the printer. Please keep the duct tape on both contacts, we will be needing it again.

Step #8:
Add more duct tape to the ink cartridge contacts, this time to contacts #3, #4 and #5, the ones found on the right side of the cartridge starting from the bottom up. Their exact location can be found in the following picture.
connectors plugging their points
connectors plugging their points
Step #9:
You can now set the ink cartridges back in the printer. Wait a little until the same error message as in step #5 is displayed on screen. Like we said before, these errors are perfectly normal and only mean the restore method is working.

Step #10:
Turn your printer off again, move the ink cartridge carriage to the center and extract them once more. You must now go back to the pieces of duct tape that were covering the 2 contacts mentioned in step #3. Put it back on the cartridges, covering the same contacts it was covering before, and set them back in the printer. The same error message will appear.

Step #11:
Turn the printer off and move the ink cartridge carriage back to the center. Take them out while the printer’s still off and remove all the duct tape from the ink cartridges.

Step #12:
Install both duct-tape free ink cartridges on the printer and turn it on. The printer must be  working normally and you should be able to use the cartridges on a regular basis from now on.

If you have any problems repeating the steps found in this blog post, or it simply doesn’t work out for you, please post a comment in the section below this post and we will get back to you with other possible solutions and the necessary clarifications.

The real secret behind HP 122 ink cartridges (CH561HL)

It’s a known fact that these ink cartridges are the biggest scam in the market for many different reasons, especially its low 120 page yield. The ink cartridge itself warns you about this fact on the packaging, which is completely unfair for a product that costs more than $10.

This ink cartridge holds but 2ml of ink and yields up to 122 pages.

box cartridge hp 122
box with printer hp
Personally, I find this very unfair, but that’s not even the biggest problem here. The actual issue is the discrimination going on in Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P., with all the respect they deserve as an enterprise.
This picture portrays an HP Deskjet 1000 printer, a very popular model throughout Latin America. Another successful printer in the region is the HP 2050 - J510. As you can see, both models compatible with the HP 122 ink cartridge. HP continues to evolve every year, but it seems they’re focusing on their own personal profit coming, of course, from our pockets, not on improving their products or offering more to their clients.

I will now show you why I oppose this particular injustice that’s happening in front of us.
ink cartridge 122 in box
ink cartridge 122 in box
This is the ink cartridge we Latin Americans are used to seeing all over the market. You can clearly see it’s compatible with HP Deskjet 1000, 1050, 1055, 2000, 2050, 3000, 3050 and 3500A printer models, products sold throughout the region. We recommend you read our post that talks about why HP 122 ink cartridges become damaged so fast.

We’ll now show you the Hp 61 Black ink cartridge (CH561WA):
ink black 61 in box
hp ink 61 in box
Here we have the Hp 61 ink cartridge, which holds 4ml of ink, yields up 190 pages and is sold in the US exclusively. You may be surprised to learn this product is also compatible with HP Deskjet 1000, 1050, 1055, 2000, 2050, 3000, 3050, 3500A, 3051A, 3052A, 3054 and 3054A printer models.

You can try looking for this ink cartridge’s datasheet, but if you’re doing it from Latin America or countries such as Japan, India and China, the website will automatically kick you out: their sale is restricted in all of these regions.

Now, do you think it’s fair one ink cartridge holds twice as much ink as the other, but they cost the same? The only real difference between these two is the places they’re sold at.

Please keep in mind you must never try placing an HP 61 ink cartridge inside any printer that uses HP 1222 ones. The printer will not recognize the ink cartridge and send out an error message at once.

However, it doesn’t end with these two ink cartridges. Please allow us to introduce the HP 301 Black ink cartridge (CH561EE).

HP 301 Black ink cartridge

This ink cartridge is only sold in Europe and the United Kingdom. I already know what you’re thinking: is it compatible with HP Deskjet 1000 printers made in the USA? This ink cartridge also holds 4ml of ink and yields 190 pages, and costs the same as the ink cartridges we have here in Latin America.

In all honesty, knowing this is happening is very frustrating for me, since customers don’t really have anyone who stands up for them and this is a hard process to give and end to. It seems companies only want to earn money and make us feel like using their products is the best we can do. If you do the math, the cost of one page keeps increasing for us, who are supposed to be the poorest ones.

How is, then, that they don’t want us to refill our ink cartridges? We all know their raw materials don’t cost that much, so please don’t take advantage of us.

This, however, is just something I want to talk about, a claim I need to make and a single speck of sand in the sea of deception we’re currently living in.

What is a headprint?

A headprint is a key element to the printing process, since it’s responsible for the electromechanical procedure of injecting the ink on a paper sheet.

In a few words, they are the actual printer.

Two fundamental parts of the headprint play a major role in this printing process: the electronic circuit that controls the injectors, and the injectors themselves, which set ink on the paper sheets to produce a print. The original information for this post was taken from todoinkjet.com

Restoring codes for Epson L100, L220 and L1800 ink bottles

We stand in front of a new era in printers, a time for adapting to the evolution of printers and also for trying to get an original, built-in CISS in our printing devices.

It seems these rather original printers are around the corner, or is just Epson trying to get ahead of anyone who wants to take its place by selling built-in CISS printers? Well, guess what?
code reset
ink bottles epson code reset
As usual, they win. They’ve set extremely high prices and are forced to sell the only thing that has earned them money their entire lives: ink cartridges. However, in this particular case, they won’t be selling ink cartridges, but only ink. This product is called bulk ink.

But how are they going to earn more money from this? It’s actually pretty simple. Ever ink bottle will have its own code, which you can insert when buying one of these articles directly and only from them.

Maybe you’re also interested in reading about eradicating ink pad end-of-life error messages on Epson L200 printers, as well as learning how to clean the print heads in an Epson L200 printer.

You can also find in our blog many helpful tutorial such as how to clean Epson L200 print heads thoroughly, just in case the former cleaning procedure didn’t work out for you; how to change the language on Epson L200 printers, and how to align headpritnts.

We’ve managed to find these codes by looking around and have tested them out already. So far, they’ve worked perfectly. The only thing you need to do with these Epson ink bottles is pour it into the Continous Ink System as you would in any other printer with CISS. You can start working with these codes shown ahead whenever you want.
