How to refill the HP 54 black ink cartridge

The HP 54 black cartridge is known for its high page yield: you can print up to 600 pages with it, and up to 400 after it’s been refilled. Even when this cartridge wasn’t installed on many HP printers, the ones that do have it are some of the best out there.

This ink cartridge can print laser-quality pages because of the ink they work with. These cartridge are filled with pigmented ink, which lasts longer, dries faster and has a better glow to it. You could also refill this cartridge with dyed ink you could find at any printer store. Dyed inks are used to refill canon, lexmark and HP cartridges.

The HP 54 black cartridge can be refilled with 8ml of ink, which you can learn how to apply by reading the following procedure.

We recommend you refill this ink cartridge as soon as it runs out, or else it could stop working at all and we wouldn’t be able to refill it anymore.

Additionally, we also recommend you know the exact amount of ink you need to inject into a cartridge. Regardless of the type or cartridge, they all have an ink limit and you shouldn’t surpass it.

We suggest you read the following post to learn how much ink to add to your cartridge. This will keep you from making mistakes and damaging your cartridges.

Instructions for refilling the HP 54 black ink cartridge:

Before we start, we recommend you have the printer clean the print heads on this ink cartridge. Doing this is necessary, but not mandatory, since these cartridges have very high performance, but we recommend you do it if you haven’t used them in a while. There could be some dry ink on the print heads, which isn’t good at all. In this case, we suggest you read the following post.

After doing the cleaning procedure which, again, is not mandatory, you can start with the refill procedure. Still, we recommend you have the print heads cleaned after every three (3) refills.

Step #1:
First, place the ink cartridge on a surface that you can spill some in ok. We don’t recommend put it on any white material, since you won’t be able to remove any ink that may fall on it. On the contraty, we suggest you use black materials and a flat surface you can remove ink easliy from.

Step #2:
Then, remove the label on top of the ink cartridge that carries its number. We recommend you remove this label before refilling your cartridge. This label allows the necessary amount of ink to enter the cartridge and contribute to its printing quality and performance.

Step #3:
Now add the 8ml of ink to the cartridge as slowly as possible. We need you to do this calmly to help the ink spread throughout the entire cartridge and soak up the sponge inside it.

Step #4:
Now that you’ve refilled the ink cartridge, you only need to print a test sheet with it. We recommend you leave the cartridge inside the printer from now on.
Something could still go wrong with this procedure even if you’ve followed all the steps in it. If this is your case, please contact us by leaving a comment in the section below this post, and we will help you out immediately.
We always recommend you print a test sheet after refilling an ink cartridge. If you wish to learn how to do this, please visit the following post.

If the 94 black ink cartridge starts blinking as soon as you install it back in the printer, we recommend you read the following post on how to restore it. This post will work on this and many other ink cartridges.
